Message from the Chairperson
Hello fellow Rivergrove Seniors Friendship Club Members. Welcome back and I hope that everyone had a good summer. It is our first week back and I have been trying to get out to as many of the activities as I can so that everyone can put a face to my name.
On behalf of the Board of Directors I would like to thank all our members both returning and new for joining our club and participating in whatever activities that you enjoy. We have reached our maximum capacity of 700 members and are sorry for any of those that wished to join but were unable to. A special thanks to Mike Vestrocy who is our Registration co-ordinator and to all the volunteers that came out in June and September to assist him with registration.
I would also like to thank Anne Burrows and Kimberley Pighin-Gordon, our Activities Co-ordinators. They too will be making their rounds and getting to know the various activity leaders who are a vital part of our club as they let us know of any changes or improvements that we may be able to make.
I would like to make everyone aware that our Seniors Club will no longer be offering the 4 different fitness classes as it is no longer a viable activity for us. The reason for this is that the City of Mississauga now offers free Fitness and swimming to anyone over 65 and our attendance dropped too low and made it unaffordable for our club to pay for the Fitness Instructor. I apologize to the few members that still came to our sessions.
I would also like to thank Karen Vestrocy who is our Social Committee Co-ordinator who already has a number of Special Events planned and posted from now until December. Karen and her team have always done an amazing job and they have some new trips and events planned that will be enjoyable and we hope well attended.
Our AGM is scheduled for Thursday 06 November 2025 and there will be 3 newly created positions on the board to be voted on. These positions will be, 1) a third Activities Co-ordinator , 2) a 2 year Director position- no portfolio 3) a 1 year Director initially and transitioning to become a 2 year position also no portfolio. These last 2 positions are to enlarge our board and hopefully to give our members a more diverse voice and foster greater community involvement in our initiatives. We encourage members to be active and have a say in what we do. The main responsibility is to attend monthly Board Meetings and keep the Board updated as to how we can improve.
On behalf of the Board of the Rivergrove Seniors Friendship Club thank you for joining and enjoy the rest of 2025 and 2026. I am looking forward to meeting and socializing with you all.
